ROBO ONE Rules

This provides a basic explanation of the rules of ROBO ONE. Detailed rules can be found in the competition rules issued for each tournament.

Falling Down is 1 Down!

When a robot falls over upon being attacked by the opponent robot (by a punch, kick, throw, etc.), it counts as 1 “down.” The robot that makes the other robot go down 3 times first is the winner. If either robot has not gone down 3 times during the set time for the round, the victory goes to the robot that scored more downs. If the robots are tied on downs, a sudden-death overtime round is held, and the first robot to score a down is the winner.

Slip!

A down is when a robot falls down due to a valid attack by the opponent robot, but if the two robots collide or one trips and falls, it does not count as a down. This is called a “slip.”

Stand Up Within 10 Seconds!

If a robot does not get up within ten seconds after a slip or down, it counts as a loss. However, in the case of a slip, a timeout can be called and it does not count as a loss. The match can be resumed after the operator makes adjustments, etc. to the robot. A timeout cannot be called when a robot is down due to an attack by the opponent robot. Also, timeouts can only be called once per team per match.

Aerial Throws of the Opponent!

When a robot executes a decisive aerial throw, it immediately counts as 2 downs. This is called an owaza, or “bold attack.” Come-from-behind victories with owaza are very much possible.

Owaza are attacks that lift the opponent off the ring into the air. The decision on them is made by the referee and judges.
